Through hard work & dedication to his craft he went on to win Hygiene award and Certificate of merit (Culinary competition) & the best outside stall in the Culinary event at BMICH in Sri-Lanka. He earned the respect of his peers and has held positions in popular hotels including Hotel Wornels Reef / Sri Lankan Airlines Catering & Intercontinental Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka . He went beyond his homeland and gained experience in preparing various foods in other countries by starting his first overseas services as a chef in Saudi Arabian Airlines Catering in the year 1993 & at Hobgoblin British pub in Japan year of 2002.

Years Experience

Having moved to Australia, Ruwan worked as a Head chef at Heemskirk Motor Hotel for 5 years the year 2008. After that, he went on to work alongside at Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston as a chef de partie for 2 years from 2013-2015. Turning a new chapter in his career, he moved to Tasmania, he started work as a head chef at Edgewater Hotel, Spirit of Tasmania- 2015 & Transferred to “Spirit of Tasmania” & still working there as a chef.

Ruwan excelled not only as a chef but also developed a passion to open his own food truck  “ Ceylon Cuisine” in 2019. We proudly say Ruwan was the person who owned a Sri Lankan food truck in Devonport. He attracted a following of food lovers which spurred him on as he injected a little Sri-Lankan culture into the western suburbs. You who reach here can experience a style of fusion cooking by creating an exotic blend of traditional Sri Lankan and modern western cuisines that Ruwan has developed over the years. He is always willing to share his culinary knowledge with others, and as a result of that, he is conducting cookery classes as well. The evocative & exotic sights and taste amazing variety of Sri-Lankan foods that is mouth-wateringly tempting to locals and visitors alike are introduced to you at Ceylon Cuisine food truck.
